Grant to purchase equipment to train students in high-demand careers

EBENSBURG, Dec. 20 – Continuing his efforts to promote family-sustaining careers in Cambria County, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, today announced a $50,000 state grant has been awarded to the Greater Johnstown Career and Technical Center.
“This grant will allow our CTC to purchase new equipment that will help to better prepare students for in-demand careers with local businesses, Burns said. “We want students to hit the ground running when they graduate, and that means training on the most current equipment and using the most updated technology available.”
The Greater Johnstown CTC grant was one of 39 announced today for Career and Technical Centers across Pennsylvania. Statewide since 2015, the number of career and technical education students earning industry-recognized credentials has increased by 38.7 percent and the number of credentials earned by students enrolled in CTE programs has grown by 33.6 percent.
Over the last decade Burns has worked to secure more than $270 million in state and federal funding for projects and programs big and small in Cambria County, including millions for workforce development, education and initiatives to connect students with future careers.
