EBENSBURG, Sept. 27 – Funded by the donations of generous Pennsylvanians, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, today announced that the Pennsylvania Veterans Trust Fund is awarding the Cambria County Office of Veterans Affairs $17,400 to help with the digitization of veterans’ records.
“County offices are one of the primary contacts for veterans and their families when it comes to accessing benefits and programs,” Burns said. “This funding will help Cambria County continue to serve our local veterans, and I want to thank all of the Pennsylvanians who donate to the Veterans Trust Fund when they renew their drivers license or car registration. Those $3 donations go a long way in helping our veterans and their families.”
Knowing well the sacrifices made by those who defended their nation, Burns has worked since taking office to help recognize area veterans, whether it’s hosting his annual veterans luncheon, helping families memorialize local heroes through highway and bridge dedications, or fighting to make sure active military families can access the benefits they deserve, like in-state tuition in the event a parent is deployed or reassigned.
The grant awarded to Cambria County was one of nearly 30 announced statewide for county offices or charitable or veteran service organizations.
The Veterans Trust Fund is funded by Pennsylvanians who voluntarily make a $3 donation when applying for or renewing their driver’s license, photo ID, or motor vehicle registration. Additionally, the VTF receives proceeds that come from the sale of the Honoring Our Veterans and Honoring Our Women Veterans license plates and private donations. Since the grant program began in 2013, a total of $4.53 million has been awarded to organizations that serve Pennsylvania veterans.
