HARRISBURG, April 8 – State Rep. Bob Merski, D-Erie, today announced his affirmative vote for H.B. 409, a landmark piece of legislation aimed at enhancing patient rights and transparency in health care.
The bill would update the Patient Test Result Information Act to ensure patients receive timely and accurate test results while strengthening the Department of Health's oversight responsibilities.
Merski emphasized the importance of the legislation in empowering patients and fostering trust in the health care system. "House Bill 409 is a critical step forward in guaranteeing that every Pennsylvanian has access to the information they need to make informed decisions about their health," Merski said. "I am honored to have co-sponsored and cast my affirmative vote for this bill, standing alongside my colleagues to prioritize patient advocacy and ensure Pennsylvanians receive the health care transparency they deserve."
The bill, introduced by state Rep. Bridget M. Kosierowski and supported by a bipartisan coalition, passed the Pennsylvania House Monday with strong bipartisan support. Merski said the milestone reflects a shared commitment to improving health care outcomes across the Commonwealth.
Merski added, "This victory in the House is just the beginning. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to ensure this bill becomes law and continues to make a positive impact on health care across Pennsylvania.”
This bill now heads to the state Senate for consideration.
