McNeill appointed to lead Subcommittee on Economic Development

HARRISBURG, April 4 – State Rep. Jeanne McNeill recently was appointed Democratic chairwoman of the House Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Economic Development.

The purpose of the subcommittee is to consider legislation aimed at enhancing economic development in the commonwealth, which is a driver of job creation and growth. It is one of the five subcommittees of the Commerce Committee.

“As the state’s economy expands and changes, it is vitally important for the legislature to modernize, streamline and update existing grant and loan programs, and to look for new and innovative ways to ensure Pennsylvania remains competitive with its neighbors as an attractive place to locate, start and grow a business or industry, and create jobs,” said McNeill, D-Lehigh, who received the appointment from House Democratic Leader Frank Dermody.

The full committee is assigned oversight of three key areas: housing, economic development and banking. It also has oversight over the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, state Department of Community and Economic Development, and state Department of Banking and Securities.

In addition to the Commerce Committee, McNeill also is a member of the House Labor and Industry, Game and Fisheries, Gaming Oversight and Rules committees for the 2019-20 legislative session.
