Madden welcomes $449,190 school safety grant

HARRISBURG, April 26 – State Rep. Maureen Madden said Pocono Mountain School District was awarded a $449,190 competitive school safety and security grant.

“We see violent events occurring at schools across the country far too often, and it is painfully clear that we must do everything we can to keep kids and staff safe,” said Madden, D-Monroe, a longtime school advocate. “I would like to thank the bipartisan members of the School Safety and Security Committee of the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency for taking this matter seriously and providing this needed funding.”

A total of $155 million in federal and state school safety funding is included in the 2023-24 fiscal year budget. This week’s grants were awarded under the competitive grant program and to nonpublic schools.

The grants help schools address basic safety needs and mental health services.

“Through my votes in Harrisburg, I have shown my willingness to fund the programs that are important not only to educating our children, but keeping them healthy and safe,” Madden said.
