Madden: Almost $119,000 secured by local fire, EMS groups

HARRISBURG, Feb. 28 – State Rep. Maureen Madden said the Office of the State Fire Commissioner awarded almost $119,000 to help firefighters and EMS providers in Monroe County.

“Fire and EMS companies face constant challenges, including tight budgets that make it tough to meet equipment, maintenance and other operating expenses. Our hardworking first responders deserve every resource they need to respond to local emergencies and to increase and retain their membership,” said Madden. D-Monroe.

Madden said the following organizations serving the 115th Legislative District received funding through the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program:

  • Acme Hose Co. No. 1 (fire) -- $14,228.
  • Barrett Township Fire Co. (fire) -- $13,256.
  • Bushkill Emergency Corps (EMS) -- $10,000.
  • Marshalls Creek Fire Co. (fire and EMS) -- $24,423.
  • Pocono Mountain Regional EMS (EMS) -- $14,995.
  • Pocono Mountain Volunteer Fire Co. (fire) -- $13,256.
  • Pocono Summit Volunteer Fire Co.  (fire) -- $14,423.
  • Pocono Township Fire Co. (fire) -- $14,228.

Madden voted to expand and reauthorize the program in 2020.

“I support Gov. Josh Shapiro’s plan to renew and double the size of the grant program to $60 million in the 2024-25 state budget,” she said.

The grant program covers facility construction and renovation; equipment purchase or repair; debt reduction; training and certification of members; and recruitment and retention; among other projects.
