Madden: Over 40K in agriculture grants awarded to Pocono Mountain School District

MONROE, Oct. 26 – State Rep. Maureen Madden, D-Monroe, has announced $43,940 has been awarded to the Pocono Mountain School District by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture to strengthen childhood nutrition and agricultural education.

The grants are as follows:

  • $14,820 to Clear Run Elementary for procurement of local produce, dairy and beef for school meals, and to create Discovery Kitchen videos to promote Farm to School families, caregivers and the community.
  • $14,820 to Swiftwater Elementary for procurement of local produce, dairy and beef for school meals, and to create Discovery Kitchen videos to promote Farm to School families, caregivers and community.
  • $14,300 Tobyhanna Elementary for procurement of local produce, dairy and beef for school meals, and to create Discovery Kitchen videos to promote Farm to School families, caregivers and community.

"This Farm to School grant program, which is intended to bolster agricultural studies to strengthen the future of the industry, is a win-win for Pocono Mountain School District," Madden said. "Not only will it help provide nutritious meals for students, but it potentially plants seeds of interest in young minds who will become future agriculturalists and consumers. I offer my gratitude to the Department of Agriculture for the grant and my congratulations to the Pocono Mountain School District elementary school students who will benefit."

The PA Farm Bill is Gov. Tom Wolf’s investment in Pennsylvania agriculture to grow opportunities and resources, remove barriers to entry and inspire future generations.
