Daley announces $30K grant to combat sexual assault at Saint Joseph’s University
LOWER MERION, Jan. 17 – State Rep. Mary Jo Daley, D-Montgomery, announced a $30,000 grant for Saint Joseph’s University today, part of a statewide movement to combat campus sexual assault at 36 colleges and universities.
State and national leaders of the “It’s On Us” initiative joined Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Education, Pedro A. Rivera, to announce nearly $1 million in grants from Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration.
For Saint Joseph’s and all other colleges and universities awarded grants, the funding helps create programs ranging from campus-wide training for students, faculty and staff, to institutional campaigns to raise awareness of the reporting process and the resources available to survivors of sexual violence.
“Any instance of sexual assault or harassment is abhorrent, especially on campuses where young adults are finding their way,” Daley said. “Raising awareness and working with the entire school community to prevent sexual assault is necessary, and I thank Gov. Wolf, Sec. Rivera and all who have contributed to bringing this funding to Saint Joseph’s and all other institutions.”
It’s On Us is a national initiative championed by President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. The Wolf administration has invested a total of nearly $4 million for It’s On Us grants over four years.
