Kulik announces more than $155,000 in local fire department, EMS grants

HARRISBURG, Feb. 15 – State Rep. Anita Kulik, D-Allegheny, has announced the awarding of $155,929 in state grants to 12 fire and ambulance companies in the 45th Legislative District.

“I am delighted to announce these grants,” Kulik said. “Our region’s courageous firefighters and emergency rescue workers provide such vital services to our community. This funding will ensure that these workers have the training, facilities and equipment they need to carry on their life-saving work.”

The grant list – by county, department and entity – is as follows:

  • Ben Avon Fire Company – Fire Company, $11,911

  • Bower Hill Volunteer Fire Department – Fire Company, $13,939

  • Coraopolis Volunteer Fire Department – Fire Company, $12,833

  • East Carnegie Volunteer Fire Department – Fire Company, $13,570

  • Glendale Hose Company No. 1 – Fire Company, $13,386

  • Kennedy Township Independent Volunteer Fire Company – Fire Company, $13,201

  • Moon Run Volunteer Fire Company – Fire Company, $14,491

  • Neville Island General Volunteer Fire Department – Fire Company, $11,911

  • Robinson Emergency Medical Service Inc. – EMS, $7,037

  • Robinson Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 – Fire Company, $12,833

  • Scott Township Emergency Medical Services – EMS, $7,037

  • Stowe Township Volunteer Fire Department – Fire Company, $23,780

The grants are made possible by the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program. They can be used for repairing, building or renovating facilities; purchasing new equipment; funding staff training and certification; and repaying debt related to equipment purchases or facility building and maintenance.

Kulik said recipients must complete and return original signed copies of their grant agreements by May 31 in order to receive the funds. She urged any department needing help with this requirement to call either her Coraopolis office at 412-264-4260 or Carnegie office at 412-429-6310.
