Kosierowski welcomes $1.5 million in transportation grants

HARRISBURG, March 26 – Five transportation projects in Lackawanna County are a step closer to completion thanks to almost $1.5 million in grants that were awarded today, announced state Rep. Bridget M. Kosierowski.
The Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, approved the grants through the CFA’s Multimodal Transportation Fund. The purpose of the program is to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to residents across Pennsylvania. Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
“State Sen. Marty Flynn and I understand that a sound transportation network is an important part of a region’s infrastructure and we were strong advocates for these projects to the CFA,” said Kosierowski, D-Lackawanna.
Dickson City was awarded a $400,000 grant on behalf of Lackawanna Executive Park Dickson LLC to make improvements to the Main Street and Viewmont Drive intersection. Dickson City will use a second $250,000 grant for Phase IV of the borough's Main Avenue streetscape project.
Kosierowski and state Rep. Kyle Donahue, D-Lackawanna, said Scranton was awarded $333,955 for Phase IV of the city’s street sign initiative.
South Abington Township is receiving a $278,609 grant to demolish and replace an existing culvert pipe that runs beneath White Birch Road.
The Fellowship House Foundation was awarded $135,067 for streetscape and sidewalk improvements.
