Rep. Bridget M. Kosierowski August 31, 2023 | 11:55 AM
HARRISBURG, Aug. 31 – State Rep. Bridget M. Kosierowski today announced a total of $264,606 was awarded to a project in her community.
The funding will go to the William A. Dixon and Marissa A Opalka Farm in Benton Township. The funding will be used to sustain the farm and the acres of land used for crops.
“More and more, we see farmland converted into developments and other things,” said Kosierowski. “This funding will ensure that the William A. Dixon and Marissa A Opalka Farm will remain a farm forever, which is important as they provide food and other resources to the community.”
This award is part of the Shapiro Administration’s investment of $8.64 million in state, county and local dollars to preserve prime farmland so that Pennsylvania farms can continue feeding families and the economy in the future.
Pennsylvania continues to lead the nation in preserved farmland. Since 1988, when voters overwhelmingly supported the creation of the Farmland Preservation Program, Pennsylvania has protected 6,266 farms and 628,967 acres in 58 counties from future development, investing nearly $1.68 billion in state, county and local funds.
