Kosierowski announces more than $340K for safety upgrades. Funding will improve Meredith Street safety crossing in Carbondale

HARRISBURG, April 16 – State Rep. Bridget M. Kosierowski, D-Lackawanna, announced a grant totaling $344,693 has been awarded to the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority to improve the Meredith Street safety crossing in Carbondale.

The grant was awarded through the state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund.

According to Kosierowski, the approved project was one of 43 announced throughout the state today to address improvements in highway, bridge, rail, pedestrian trails and bike trails.

The grant award will address the following:

  • Improved signaling and lighting.
  • Colored concrete, sidewalks and barriers to keep pedestrians/bicyclists safe while crossing on Business Route 6.

“It’s via investments like these that our neighborhoods and communities are enriched,” Kosierowski said. “These improvements will better ensure the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists attempting to cross Route 6 where two segments of the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail meet.”

PennDOT evaluated the applications and made selections based on criteria such as safety benefits, regional economic conditions, the technical and financial feasibility, job creation, energy efficiency and operational sustainability.
