Kosierowski announces more than $100K in grants to local school districts

HARRISBURG, Aug. 25 – State Rep. Bridget Kosierowski, D-Lackawanna, announced today that two area school districts were awarded $101,665 to improve educational services students at schools designated Additional Targeted Support and Improvement under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act.

“This investment ensures schools needing extra support as they face additional challenges are able to meet those challenges effectively,” Kosierowski said.

The following school districts received the funding:

  • Lakeland School District: $40,849
  • Mid Valley School District: $60,816

ESSA requires states to develop plans to designate schools for support and improvement based on the performance of individual student groups in key areas, including academic achievement and growth; graduation rate and English learner progress; and student success factors such as regular attendance and chronic absenteeism. Student groups include race, economically disadvantaged, English language learners, and students with disabilities.

Grants were calculated based on elements of the federal Title I, Part A formula, including the number of economically disadvantaged students and other school enrollment data.
