HARRISBURG, June 22 – State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, D-Phila., offered the following statement regarding the passing of Charles L. Blockson, who was the curator emeritus of the Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection at Temple University.
“Charles Blockson is a giant of a man. My deepest condolences are with Noelle and the entire Blockson family. His collection of artifacts is a cultural gem in the commonwealth and is responsible for so much of the knowledge we have about the African American diaspora. He is a hero,” Kenyatta said.
“In the near future I will introduce legislation to make his birthday, December 16th, a holiday in the commonwealth.”
The Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection is located inside Sullivan Hall on Temple’s campus.
