Rep. Kenyatta brings more than $7 million in funding to 181st District

HARRISBURG, Oct. 27 – State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, D-Phila., announced $7.8 million in state funding to multiple facilities in the 181st Legislative District.

The funds come from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.

“I am excited to see these funds coming to our district in North Philly,” Kenyatta said. “These are important programs that will improve our community, and the state should be investing in them.”

The beneficiaries of the awards include:

  • Alliance for Progress Charter School Inc. received $500,000 to fit out its fourth floor.
  • Beech Community Services received $1 million for a redevelopment construction project at 1905-1911 Cecil B Moore Ave.
  • Philadelphia Housing Authority received $1.5 million to benefit the Hartfrant Community Center Complex.
  • Temple University Main Campus received $1 million for infrastructure modernization and improvements.
  • Philadelphia Youth for Change received $3.5 million as a part of the YouthBuild Philadelphia project that will transform a vacant building into a world-class alternative education, workforce and leadership development movement.
  • Beech Community Services received $340,000 for the Dox Thrash House project for the design and planning of redevelopment construction at 2340-42 Cecil B. Moore Ave.
  • The Police Athletic League of Philadelphia received $1 million for the Cozen and Scattered Sites Program to provide a state-of-the-art full-size gymnasium.

The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program is a grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.

RACP projects are authorized in the Redevelopment Assistance section of a Capital Budget Itemization Act, have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenue or other measures of economic activity.
