Rep. Kenyatta calls for bold budget proposal that targets help for working Pennsylvanians

HARRISBURG, Feb. 3 – State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, D-Phila., today reiterated the need for a bold state budget proposal and called Gov. Tom Wolf’s 2021-22 proposal an important start to the conversation about addressing the needs of working Pennsylvanians, especially in the wake of the health and economic crisis stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic

“As I’ve said repeatedly, we need a budget that meets the moment, and today Governor wolf laid out a framework that we will debate over the coming months,” Kenyatta said. “The majority must work in good faith with us to create a fairer and more equitable commonwealth for all Pennsylvanians. We know what we need to do. We must focus on vaccine distribution, on supporting our small businesses, on equitably funding our schools and resourcing them to safely reopen. We must raise the minimum wage now.

“These are things I’ve repeatedly called for and I am happy to hear the governor included them in his address.

“Working people in the 181st District and across Pennsylvania need help right now, whether its criminal justice reform, ending gun violence, confronting the climate crisis, or being able to access the vaccine.

“We can’t wait until the last minute to get this budget done. I will continue to fight to ensure that those things are prioritized in the final package. For the people I serve, this is life or death and our communities can’t wait.”
