Isaacson welcomes nearly $500,000 in state funding to support museums and historic sites in legislative district

HARRISBURG, Sept. 26 – State Rep. Mary Isaacson announced today that she was proud to help secure $561,900 in state funding awarded to various museums and historical sites in her legislative district.

“I represent portions of Philadelphia where our country’s history began and that are today pioneers in health and science research,” Isaacson said. “The organizations awarded are important vessels of knowledge and education and are vital to preserving both our shared history and unique cultures.”

The organizations awarded funding were:

  • American Philosophical Society - $53,100
  • Arch Street Meeting House Preservation Trust - $16,300
  • Carpenter’s Company of The City and County of Philadelphia - $9,800
  • Christ Church Preservation Trust - $14,700
  • Historical Society of Pennsylvania - $53,100          
  • Independence Seaport Museum - $53,100
  • Museum of the American Revolution - $53,100
  • National Constitution Center - $53,100
  • National Liberty Museum - $53,100
  • Philadelphia Fire Department Historical Corporation/Fireman's Hall Museum - $4,000
  • Philadelphia Society for the Preservation of Landmarks - $53,100
  • Science History Institute - $53,100
  • The Athenaeum of Philadelphia - $39,200
  • The Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History - $53,100

Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission through the Cultural and Historical Support Grant program presents awards to organizations in the state’s museum community that are otherwise not supported by state agencies with the goal of fortifying these entities for continued operations.

These awards are part of nearly $4 million in Cultural and Historical Support Grants to 173 eligible entities. According to the PHMC, this is an increase over previous years’ awards by $2 million to better benefit Pennsylvania's historical resources and strengthen the museum community.
