HARRISBURG, Feb. 4 – As Gov. Tom Wolf laid out his budget and policy priorities for the year ahead, state Rep. Sara Innamorato, D-Allegheny, joined Wolf in calling on the state legislature to pass an increase in the minimum wage.
“While for many this is a time of relative economic prosperity, too many of our working families aren’t able to make ends meet,” Innamorato said. “If we want to build a state that works for everyone, where all of our neighbors are afforded a life of dignity, then it’s time for us to recognize that $7.25 isn’t enough to live on. It’s time to raise the wage.”
Innamorato also praised Wolf’s plan to expand services for vulnerable populations, to shorten waiting lists by investing more than $25 million in programs for seniors and people with disabilities, and to increase training for direct care workers.
“Our duty as elected officials is to protect the health, safety and welfare of the people we serve -- all of the people,” Innamorato said. “A budget is a moral document and reflects the principles and priorities of the state government it funds. I’ll support any budget that puts people first and fight to improve one that doesn’t go far enough.”
