Deasy announces over $3M in state funding for community projects

Funding will support police and fire departments as well as renovations to playgrounds and the Pittsburgh Musical Theater

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 15 – State Rep. Dan Deasy, D-Allegheny, announced over $3 million in grant funding was awarded through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support a range of projects across the 27th Legislative District.

“I am proud to announce these investments in our community’s safety and in the places where our communities come together,” said Deasy. “This funding will keep our neighborhoods, cultural venues, and gathering spaces safe, welcoming, and accessible. These grants reflect an investment in improved quality of life for our community members of all ages.”

The projects awarded were as follows:

  • $800,000 to Pittsburgh’s Bureau of Fire to purchase a pumper fire truck.
  • $650,000 to Scott Township for stormwater collection upgrades within the Oakes neighborhood.
  • $500,000 to Pittsburgh Musical Theater for Phase 2 of the full renovation.
  • $450,000 to Scott Township for police facility expansion and renovation.
  • $300,000 to the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority for a combination sewer cleaning truck.
  • $169,900 to Green Tree Borough to install upgraded playground equipment.
  • $131,757 to Ingram Borough for new leaf collection machine.
  • $85,000 to Heidelberg Borough for new police vehicles to accommodate an increased number of officers.

Deasy worked with fellow Allegheny legislators to secure the $800,000 pumper fire truck for the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire and the $300,000 investment for the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority.

The Local Share Account funding, which is derived from tax dollars generated at Pennsylvania’s casinos, was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority. The CFA is an independent agency of the state Department of Community and Economic Development that administers Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus programs.
