Solomon leads effort to fight blight as Shapiro signs transparency reforms into law

On Monday, Gov. Josh Shapiro signed H.B. 858 into law. Authored and championed by state Rep. Jared Solomon, the new law reaffirms his commitment to eliminating blight, revitalizing communities and holding non-resident landlords accountable for the properties they own.

The law will require municipalities to collect and maintain contact information for property owners to ensure they’re held responsible for maintaining the upkeep of their property.

“Too often, the point of contact for blighted properties is an unreachable LLC. Without a legitimate point of contact, the property will continue to deteriorate, creating serious safety hazards, lowering property values and overall affecting our quality of life.

“This is a powerful tool to ensure that there are real consequences for property owners who stall code enforcement, wasting the county’s time, money and resources. Our neighborhoods deserve a recourse that holds property owners accountable for blighted properties – to cultivate safer neighborhoods with higher property values and community pride.”

With Shapiro’s signature – the bill is now law.
