Shapiro signs Pisciottano bill to modernize workers’ comp into law

New law allows direct deposit for workers' comp benefits

HARRISBURG, Oct. 31 – State Rep. Nick Pisciottano announced today a bill he helped craft allowing workers’ compensation benefits to be paid via direct deposit has been signed into law by Gov. Josh Shapiro.

“This is a small change to our workers’ compensation system that will make a huge difference in the lives of workers injured on the job,” said Pisciottano, D-Allegheny. “Under our current system, comp benefits can only be paid out via paper check, which can cause payments to be delayed or lost in the mail. I’m pleased my colleagues and I were able to work together to shepherd this bill through the legislature with unanimous support. I’ll always fight to make life easier for working people.”

Pisciottano said S.B. 1232, which mirrors his H.B. 760 to allow injured workers to receive compensation by direct deposit, was signed into law as Act 126 of 2024 on Tuesday.
