Pielli’s business reporting bill heads to governor’s desk

H.B. 1419 passes state Senate with bipartisan vote

HARRISBURG, May 8 – State Rep. Chris Pielli, D-Chester, said he is proud to announce that his business reporting legislation passed the Pennsylvania state Senate Tuesday with unanimous bipartisan support. 

Last session, the General Assembly overhauled Title 15 (Corporations and Unincorporated Associations) to require entities and businesses registered with the Department of State to file an annual report with the agency, stating their existence. Previously, the report was required every 10 years.

Currently, in-state businesses have a first annual report due date of Jan. 4, 2027, while out-of-state businesses have a Jan. 3, 2026 deadline.

Pielli’s H.B. 1419 would ensure that in-state and out-of-state businesses have the same transitional annual reporting due date of Jan. 4, 2027.

“In order for Pennsylvania to succeed, we need to be more welcoming to businesses,” said Pielli. “For purposes of efficiency and consistency, my bill would change the requirement so all companies doing business in Pennsylvania have the same reporting date.

“This simple change would help streamline processing, reduce confusion and ensure that all entities are given the time to adjust to new reporting requirements. By doing so, we ensure a more business-friendly Pennsylvania. This change would also be consistent with Gov. Josh Shapiro’s initiative to create a friendlier, smarter and more efficient business environment for the benefit of our economy. I thank my colleagues in the legislature for their support in getting this bill to the governor.”

The bill now heads to Shapiro’s desk for his signature.
