Hill-Evans sworn in for first term as state representative, will hold office open house Wednesday
HARRISBURG, Jan. 3 – State Rep. Carol Hill-Evans today was sworn into office during a Capitol ceremony for her first term as state representative for the 95th Legislative District.
The Pennsylvania House of Representatives swearing-in corresponds with the first Tuesday in January, every two years. This year is Pennsylvania’s 201st legislative session.
“The opportunity to serve York as its state representative is very exciting,” said Hill-Evans, D-York. “I look forward to representing my constituents’ voice in Harrisburg, while learning more about the legislative process and issues facing Pennsylvania.
“As a York native, I will work hard to advance our community and propel York to the forefront of economic development, promote educational excellence and further York’s reputation as a premier community for families, seniors and students alike. There is a lot of work to be done, but I know our community is ready and excited for the tasks at hand.”
Hill-Evans also will host an open house from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday in her district office, 53 E. North St., Suite 3, York.
There will be refreshments, information on state programs and initiatives, and a ceremony marking her official swearing in.
Prior to being elected to the state House, Hill-Evans served on York City Council for eight years. She served as council vice president from 2008 to 2011, before serving as president of York City Council. She also served as the chairwoman of the council's Rules and Administrative Code Committee and was a member of the Police, Fire, Public Works and Economic and Community Development Committee, as well as the Officers and Employees Retirement Board.
Hill-Evans said that she is eager to start the legislative session, where she will be focused on helping solve problems in Pennsylvania, including combatting the opioid addiction epidemic, increasing education funding, and protecting first responders and domestic-abuse victims.
