Haddock joins in honoring veterans in lead up to Wreaths Across America Day

Authored legislation recognizing the day in the commonwealth

HARRISBURG, Dec. 11 – To honor those who serve and remember the fallen, state Rep. Jim Haddock participated in the Wreaths Across America opening ceremony at the state Capitol on Wednesday.

The ceremony kicked off a weeklong series of holiday events designed to raise awareness and appreciation for the sacrifices made by the nation’s veterans and their families.

“Wreaths Across America Day is about symbols in action,” said Haddock, D-Lackawanna/Luzerne. “The day honors those who served and their families, and Pennsylvania is home to more than 614,000 veterans. That’s why I was proud to offer the House resolution that recognizes them and the 2 million volunteers nationwide who will place wreaths on veterans’ graves in tribute.”

Haddock’s H.R. 369 designates Saturday, Dec. 13 as Wreaths Across America Day in Pennsylvania. The resolution was unanimously adopted by the House last month.

Haddock joined colleagues from the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, fellow legislators, members of Wreaths Across America, and local military officials for the wreath-laying and remembrance ceremony at the Capitol. This year’s theme is “Keep Moving Forward,” recognizing the unwavering resilience of servicemen and servicewomen.

Wreaths Across America is a national nonprofit that honors U.S. military veterans by placing wreaths on their graves each December. Volunteers gather at cemeteries across the country to remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and teach future generations about the sacrifices of our military. In 2024, more than 3 million wreaths were placed on headstones at locations worldwide.
