Haddock wants PUC to suspend PA American Water rate hike request

HARRISBURG, Dec. 20 – State Rep. Jim Haddock is encouraging the PA Public Utility Commission to suspend the recent rate increase request filed by Pennsylvania American Water Co. and to hold public input hearings.

The request ranges from 25% to 32% for homes, businesses and industries.

“This is especially concerning considering PAW was just approved for a 14.5% increase by the PUC in April 2023. I am opposed to such an expeditious request,” Haddock wrote the PUC.

“My district offices are being overwhelmed by constituents who are filled with dread and worry about how they can afford such a sudden and expensive water rate increase. This is a substantial burden for customers who are struggling to pay their bills and make ends meet.

“It is my hope that the Pennsylvania American Water Co.’s recent request will be suspended so public input hearings can be scheduled in our region to allow for constituents to express their views before any verdict is reached by the PUC.”
