Haddock lauds $524,000 funding for county rail infrastructure improvement project

HUGHESTOWN, Dec. 15 – Funding for a critical rail infrastructure improvement project in Luzerne County has been approved through the Rail Transportation Assistance Program and Rail Freight Assistance Program, according to state Rep.-elect Jim Haddock.

“This funding allows necessary repairs to be made to our railway system, which means not only will products keep heading to store shelves without disruption, but also creates new job opportunities right here in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties,” said Haddock, D-Luzerne/Lackawanna. “I would like to thank Governor Tom Wolf and state Senator Marty Flynn for recognizing the importance Northeast Pennsylvania plays in Pennsylvania’s freight distribution and their support for this project.”

According to Haddock, the funding was approved for the following project in Luzerne County:

  • Redevelopment Authority of Luzerne County - $524,000 for the rehabilitation of approximately 2.5 miles of track in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties by replacing ties and switches and improving grade crossings.

This project was one of 24 rail freight projects approved for funding across the state.
