Guenst welcomes over $3 million in grants for Montco projects

HATBORO, Oct. 23 – State Rep. Nancy Guenst, D-Montgomery, today announced that over $3 million in state funding has been awarded to several projects in her district.
"These projects are all about enhancing the quality of life in our district," Guenst said. "Memorial Park will be more accessible for everyone. The Bethayres streetscape design will boost local business and pedestrian safety. The Cross County Trail expansion will connect our communities and provide a great space for recreation. The new pavilions at the Willow Grove YMCA will give more children the chance to learn and grow. Plus, the upgrades at Eastern Center and Upper Moreland Primary School will ensure safer, more comfortable environments for our students and staff. I'm excited to see the positive changes these projects will bring."
The projects receiving Local Share Account funds include:
Hatboro Borough – Memorial Park Improvements
Hatboro Borough will receive $818,377 for improvements to Memorial Park. These upgrades include constructing ADA-compliant parking and pathways, adding two new pedestrian bridges, and addressing stormwater management with new drainage swales and a rain garden.
Lower Moreland Township – Bethayres Streetscape Preliminary Design
Lower Moreland Township has been awarded $140,000 to cover the engineering and preliminary design costs for the Bethayres streetscape plan. This project aims to enhance pedestrian accessibility and create a more welcoming environment.
Montgomery County – Cross County Trail East, Section C
Montgomery County has received $500,000 to construct a 1.75-mile portion of the Cross County Trail East. This project will upgrade the existing gravel trails to an accessible multi-use trail, close the gap in the regional Circuit Trails network and connect major destinations in Upper Moreland Township and Bryn Athyn Borough.
Montgomery County Redevelopment Authority – Willow Grove YMCA Capital Project
The Montgomery County Redevelopment Authority, on behalf of the Willow Grove YMCA, has received $318,000 to install two new pavilions. These pavilions will allow the YMCA to expand its summer camp capacity and provide an outdoor event space for community activities.
Upper Moreland Township – Springhouse Renovations
Upper Moreland Township has been granted $102,000 to complete the restoration of the historic Springhouse Building at Farmstead Park. The project will finalize the rehabilitation of the Springhouse by adding structural support and roofing.
The projects receiving Public School Facility Improvement Grant funds include:
Eastern Center for Arts and Technology - HVAC Equipment Replacement Project
Eastern Center for Arts and Technology received $575,000 for the replacement of 16 outdated air handling units at its Upper Moreland Township facility. Many of the units are over 40 years old, and this project will improve air quality, ventilation, and safety by conforming to modern codes. The funds will cover the purchase, installation, and engineering costs for the new equipment.
Upper Moreland Township School District - Primary School Roof Replacement Project
The Upper Moreland Township School District received $575,000 to address the aging roof at its Primary School, which spans 70,000 square feet and has developed leaks and insulation problems. The project will install a new 2 Ply Hybrid KEE Membrane System to ensure a leak-free and secure environment for students and staff.
