HARRISBURG, Oct. 1 – Highmark Mann Center has been awarded a $250,000 state grant for operational support for its educational and cultural programming.
The announcement was made today by state Reps. Jennifer O’Mara, D-Delaware, chair of the House Democratic Caucus Southeast Delegation; Morgan Cephas, D-Phila., chair of the Philadelphia Delegation; and Roni Green, D-Phila., whose legislative district includes Highmark Mann.
A publicly owned facility operated by a nonprofit, Highmark Mann offers widely diverse programming and attracts more than 400,000 visitors annually. Its attendance has more than doubled since 2015.
The grant was awarded from a program at the state Department of Community and Economic Development.
“The Southeast Delegation advocated for this grant, because Highmark Mann is a treasured institution in our region,” O’Mara said. “It is much more than a performing arts center -- it has also grown to be a leader in educational offerings in the arts. We are proud to have Highmark Mann in our region and we’re proud to help support it.”
Working with Philadelphia public schools, Highmark Mann provides educational offerings to many underserved children, providing programming to nearly 5,000 students each year.
“Nestled in beautiful East Fairmount Park in West Philadelphia, the Highmark Mann Center is a beacon of togetherness for our communities,” Green said. “While it serves as a venue for nationally known artists and entertainment, it’s also been the backdrop for community events, learning, and growth for generations. I’m glad we’re able to support the programming and development at the Mann through this grant from DCED.”
“For 50 years, the Highmark Mann Center has been a recognizable focal point of the arts, entertainment, and education in Philadelphia and our southeastern counties,” Cephas said. “Our delegation is always happy to support funding for the Mann to amplify their informative and cultural opportunities for all people and every community.”
