Otten applauds more than $2.1M in LSA grants

HARRISBURG, Dec. 18 – State Rep. Danielle Friel Otten, D-Chester, today announced that $2,150,966 in state funding has been awarded to benefit multiple community projects and local organizations.

Funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority through the state’s Local Share Account program, which is derived from the taxes paid by Pennsylvania casinos.

“These grant awards prioritize public health and safety, emergency services and outdoor recreation,” Otten said. “Specifically, these investments will support flood mitigation efforts, sewer repairs, traffic safety, emergency response, and improvements to parks and trails in our district. I’m grateful to our municipalities for all the hard work they are doing to meet the challenges of population growth, higher operating costs, and increasingly severe weather events, and I’m pleased to have helped secure this critical funding for our local communities.”

The CFA approved funding for the following projects in Otten’s central Chester County district:

  • $375,000 to Downingtown Borough for the Downingtown Area Flood Planning Project, which will allow the borough to complete a plan for a flood mitigation strategy as part of an intermunicipal effort to address ongoing flooding issues in Downingtown Borough and eastern portions of Caln Township.
  • $142,763 for Caln Township, for the purchase of two electric police vehicles and installation of equipment, which will help to lower emissions and fuel costs for the Caln Township Police Department.
  • $350,000 for the Thorndale Fire Co. in Caln Township, to be used toward the purchase of a rescue pumper to replace the fire company’s existing 2003 apparatus.
  • $401,082 for the Uwchlan Ambulance Corps, to be used toward the purchase of two new ambulances to replace or supplement UAC’s existing ambulances, which are more than 16 years old.
  • $104,961 to the Uwchlan Ambulance Corps for the purchase of four new heart monitors, which will allow the UAC to continue to provide high-quality care in their growing coverage area.
  • $200,000 for Upper Uwchlan Township, for traffic signal improvements in the area around Graphite Mine Road to help ensure reliable emergency responses during emergency management situations.
  • $32,160 for the purchase of 24 body cameras for the Uwchlan Township Police Department, to replace outdated equipment.
  • $245,000 to Uwchlan Township for the creation of a nature playground at Shamona Peck Park. The project will incorporate natural elements such as rocks, logs, sand and native plantings to create climbing structures, sensory teaching gardens, pathways and natural landscaping.
  • $200,000 to Wallace Township for the installation of a pedestrian bridge over Indian Run to connect Wallace Township’s existing trails with Springton Manor Farm and advance the township’s efforts to create an extensive trail system that will allow residents and visitors to safely enjoy the township’s open spaces.
  • $100,000 to West Brandywine Township Municipal Authority to repair deteriorating trunk line manholes in its sanitary sewer system. These measures will enhance system integrity, reduce corrosion and prevent future damage.
