Rep. Robert L. Freeman April 30, 2024 | 4:23 PM
HARRISBURG, April 30 – A revitalization project in Easton’s South Side that will include four affordable housing units was approved recently for $600,000 in funding by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, according to state Rep. Robert Freeman.
“In addition to the new housing, this project will restore a prominent corner commercial space on the Berwick Street corridor, which is historically known as the main business district on the South Side,” said Freeman, D-Northampton. “These changes will be a welcome addition to Easton’s South Side neighborhood.”
Freeman said the PHFA funding for the project, with a total cost of $1.47 million, was made available through the Community Revitalization Fund Program via the commonwealth’s Mixed-Use Development Tax Credit.
The CRFP seeks to expand or rehabilitate affordable housing coupled with retail/commercial space to promote community revitalization. The term "mixed-use" for these projects refers to buildings that combine both commercial/retail and residential space.
