Donahue releases statement on the passage of a minimum wage bill

HARRISBURG, June 20 – State Rep. Kyle Donahue today applauded the House passage of legislation (House Bill 1500) that would increase the minimum wage in Pennsylvania. .

“A study that was recently conducted by the Keystone Research Center says that Pennsylvanians who live near the borders of neighboring states are traveling to those states to find work that can pay them $100 more per week than an in-state job,” Donahue said.

“Passing this bill shows that the House of Representatives hears our workers’ calls for action on raising the minimum wage.

“This bill represents a compromise and although it is not perfect, it is a step in the right direction for workers across our commonwealth.”

This legislation would increase the minimum wage in Pennsylvania to:

  • $11 per hour on Jan. 1, 2024.
  • $13 per hour on Jan. 1, 2025.
  • $15 per hour on Jan. 1, 2026.

The bill also would provide for annual cost-of-living increases beginning in 2027. The bill would also set the minimum wage for tipped workers at 60 percent of the hourly minimum wage – which has been stuck at $2.83 per hour since the 20th century.

The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration
