Statement on Saturday's assassination attempt
Rep. David M. Delloso July 15, 2024 | 2:09 PM
The events of this weekend wherein an idiot took it upon himself to attempt to assassinate former President Trump, and in doing so injured several innocent civilians and killed a man while trying to protect his family, are disgusting to me. The actions of the shooter are revolting, and the swift action of the Secret Service and Local Police Agencies were heroic in eliminating the ongoing threat the shooter imposed and should be lauded.
My gratitude goes out to the Secret Service and all Local Police Agencies that were there to protect freedom of speech and the American way. Their skillful actions saved the President’s life and prevented harm from coming to many people there gathered to share their political ideas and gain insight into those of former President and Candidate Trump.
I have five (5) times taken an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States, twice in the Marines and now three times as an elected State Representative. Freedom of expression, the right to assemble and the right to vote for the Candidate of your choosing must be defended and protected at every turn.
If you don't like the way things are going, express yourself, assemble with people of like mind, and build a coalition of voters to make the change you seek. That’s the American way. Assassination attempts and terror activity will and should be met with the full force and effect of those who have sworn to defend the Constitution and the American way.
Be vigilant and aware of your surroundings. These are troubled times we live in, but know that your family, friends and neighbors, regardless of political ideology, want only to improve the USA and Pennsylvania. Days like Saturday should remind us that most of us want the "system" to work and we are willing to work within the "system."
