Delloso issues statement on Prospect Medical Holdings’ decision to close two remaining Crozer hospitals

RIDLEY PARK, March 7 – State Rep. David M. Delloso today released the following statement in response to Prospect Medical Holdings’ reckless and devastating decision to shut down Crozer Health System and close Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Taylor Hospital:
“This development is unwelcome and unacceptable, and I am livid over the callous disregard for the people of Delaware County. Typical of private equity, Prospect has never put into play any of their own money; instead, they sold off the hospital system’s assets to cover the purchase price and looted the rest for their own profit, likely taking overblown salaries and bonuses to avoid responsibility and taxes.
“I earnestly believe that ultimately this is a failure of government. We as a nation, through leaders we elected long ago – and guided by insurance industry influences – decided that a national health care system would be unsustainable. Nothing could be further from the truth, but the insurance industry, through their dealings with elected officials, painted a picture that first-generation immigrants and minorities were inferior beings, prone to poor health and likely to overburden a government-administered health care plan. Hence, we have no national health care system – the exception, of course, that government employees, active duty servicemembers, veterans, and Medicaid/Medicare recipients all enjoy a version of nationalized health care at the expense of the taxpayers. This is deservedly so, and is a sensible, cost-effective system that all taxpayers could enjoy if we had the political will.”
