Deasy introduces COLA bill for retired public employees, including teachers

HARRISBURG, June 14 – State Rep. Dan Deasy, D-Allegheny, introduced a bill that would provide a cost-of-living increase to retired public school teachers and state workers, some who have not received the adjustment in 20 years.

House Bill 1415 would provide incremental increases to retired employees based on their retirement date. Those who have been retired longer would receive the largest adjustment. The retirement dates affected in this bill would be for those retiring in 2001 or earlier.

“These are teachers and loyal public employees who gave so much to their communities but have been retired for many years,” Deasy said. “We owe them the dignity in retirement that they deserve. This adjustment is long overdue and with the current economic climate, there is no better time to secure it.”
