Kulik, Deasy announce $4.25 million state investment to boost local projects

Funding will support manufacturing and development of community center

HARRISBURG, Oct. 27 – Projects for manufacturing and a new community center will receive a combined $4.25 million in state grants, announced state Reps. Anita Kulik and Dan Deasy, both D-Allegheny.

“I am happy to join my colleague Representative Deasy in announcing these grants for projects that will benefit our shared communities,” Kulik said. “Both of these mark a major investment by the state in the communities we call home, and I want to thank everyone involved in making them happen.”

The grants were awarded for the following projects:

  • $2 million to Welly LLC to purchase and/or renovate the existing industrial facility at 507 Forest Ave. in Scott Township for an insulated steel drinkware manufacturing line.
  • $2.25 million to Josh Gibson Foundation for the reconstruction and development of a new community center in McKees Rocks Borough.

“I’m pleased to work with Representative Kulik to bring these resources to our respective communities,” Deasy said. “The funding for the Josh Gibson Foundation’s community center will be a huge win for that area.”

Kulik also announced $1 million in funding for the Riverfront Industrial Development in Stowe Township. The grant will be used for environmental remediation, including the removal of underground tanks on the site, along with additional site preparation for building construction and transportation improvements to the surrounding roads that access the site.

The funding for the grants came from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which is administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.
