Cruz praises passage of S.B. 663
HARRISBURG, July 23 – State Rep. Angel Cruz, D-Phila., praised S.B. 663, which included language he had written, as it passed the House Tuesday and moved to the governor to be signed into law.
Senate Bill 663 allows for the involuntary termination of parental rights, but specifically prohibits termination of support obligations, when a child is conceived as a result of certain sexual offenses. It also limits custody awards to a parent convicted of such offense.
“This is legislation that I have been working to get passed for the past several years, and I’m glad to see that state Senator Randy Vulakovich could appropriate language that I had written and use his position in the majority to help push this bill to the governor’s desk,” Cruz said. “The most important aspect of this is that the people who need their rights protected the most will get that, and I look forward to Governor Wolf signing this legislation into law.
Cruz’ H.B. 945 passed the House last session but did not receive a floor vote in the Senate.
