Rep. Angel Cruz September 16, 2019 | 3:04 PM
HARRISBURG, Sept. 16 – State Rep. Angel Cruz, D-Phila., today announced that the Philadelphia Children’s Alliance secured a $70,493 grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to help Philadelphia victims of child sex abuse.
“Congratulations to the Philadelphia Children’s Alliance for this grant and I am proud that the PCCD recognizes their important work,” Cruz said. “The Philadelphia Children’s Alliance is an invaluable asset for our entire city and provides a ray of hope in gray situations.”
Cruz, who serves as Democratic chair of the House Human Services Committee, said the state grant will be used to fund the organization’s victims’ services component, in which an assigned counselor assesses families’ needs, provides crisis counseling and education about the investigation process, and offers referrals for medical or mental health treatment and support groups.
“Children who are victims of abuse relive the traumatic episodes when retelling their experiences to investigators, making the criminal justice process incredibly difficult to solely endure,” Cruz said. “This grant will be used to ensure that these children and their families are provided the proper resources.”
