Election Deadlines and Voting FAQs

How to Register to Vote?

You may register to vote if you are a United States citizen for at least 30 days before the next election, a resident of Pennsylvania for at least 30 days before the next election, and be at least 18 years old on Election Day. The deadline to register is October 19!

Have you recently moved or changed your name? Make sure to check if your voter registration is up to date, here. The deadline to update your information also is October 19.

Questions about Voting by Mail?

Any qualified voter may request an absentee or mail-in ballot. The deadline to apply for a mail-in or absentee ballot is October 27. You can track and check on the status of your mail-in ballot here!

Make sure that you place your ballot in the secrecy envelope and then put the secrecy envelope into the official envelope. Be sure to sign the declaration, or your ballot may not count. See the helpful step-by-step graphic on how to mail in your ballot. All ballots must be postmarked by November 3 to be counted.

If you prefer not to mail, you can deliver it to one of the secure drop-off locations near you. * Mail-in ballot drop-off locations will open beginning on Tuesday, October 13th. Find a drop-off location near you, visit here.

Voting in Person

If you plan on voting in person, all Chester County polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on November 3, 2020.

Additionally, if you requested a mail-in ballot, you can still choose to vote in person instead.

If you choose to do so, you will need to give your ballot and envelopes to a Judge of Elections at your designated polling location and they will spoil it for you, enabling you to vote in person.

If you forget to bring your mail-in ballot and envelopes to be spoiled, you will be given a provisional ballot to complete at your polling location. This ballot will only be counted once Voter Services verifies that your mail-in ballot has not been received by the Election Board.
