Ciresi's statement in response to Gov. Wolf's budget proposal

Today I issued the following statement to the local media on the Governor's budget address:

"The past year has exposed many of our inequities and challenges in Pennsylvania more than ever before. With the release of Governor Wolf’s 2021-22 budget proposal, I am grateful to see a bold commitment to education, especially addressing the long-time inequities in how our state has funded K-12 education that were disproportionately affecting our communities.

"By actually using our fair funding formula and achieving cost savings through charter reform, this budget would deliver over $22 million to school districts I represent – including a much-needed almost $15 million for Pottstown School District. Fair funding and cost savings have been long-time priorities of mine, and, with them, we’ll be able to deliver a better education for our children and achieve meaningful property tax reductions.

"Through common sense charter reforms, closing corporate tax loopholes, and a severance tax on Marcellus Shale gas extraction, I believe we can achieve many of our budget priorities – and I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to get a budget done that works for the hard-working people of Pennsylvania."
