Rep. Joseph Ciresi July 13, 2020 | 4:29 PM
PHOENIXVILLE, July 13 – State Rep. Joe Ciresi, D-Montgomery, today applauded a new study projecting more than $350 million in economic benefits from the restoration of passenger train service between Phoenixville and Philadelphia, and reaffirmed his commitment to continuing work on restoration to western Montgomery County, including Pottstown and Royersford.
“This study proves the potential of passenger train service to boost our regional economy while relieving traffic congestion,” Ciresi said. “Bringing back the train is critical to reviving the downtowns of Pottstown and Royersford, creating new jobs, increasing property values, and improving quality of life. Everyone – not just train passengers – stands to benefit from these positive impacts. I am proud to continue to work with stakeholders on this important priority, and look forward to seeing further developments as we continue to move forward.”
In addition to this study and a similar economic impact study underway in Reading, Ciresi noted his involvement in two additional studies currently in progress to examine transportation alternatives for western Montgomery County as well as the feasibility and implementation of passenger train service restoration from Philadelphia to Reading. Results from those studies are expected in late 2020 or early 2021.
