STATE COLLEGE, Feb. 15 – Today, Rep. Scott Conklin, D-Centre, announced that the Department of Labor and Industry awarded $325,000 to invest in Centre County’s workforce.
Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Board – which serves Centre, Clinton, Columbia, Lycoming, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union counties – will receive:
- $175,000 to assist businesses in identifying their workforce priorities and challenges with training staff.
- $150,000 for the Central Pennsylvania Agriculture Industry Partnership to assist businesses in the agriculture industry with identifying their workforce and challenges with training staff.
“Agriculture is one of Pennsylvania’s largest industries and a major industry in Centre County,” Conklin said. “With more than 1,023 farms that span 149,858 acres and Centre County farms selling agricultural products valued at more than $91 million, we have the opportunity to invest in the agriculture industry to ensure it continues to grow, as well as support businesses in the central Pennsylvania region.”
The PAsmart Industry Partnership Grant Program works to fund the development, launch, implementation, and technical assistance of industry partnerships that address the workforce, economic development and educational needs of Pennsylvania’s industries.
