Burgos sworn in for first term as state representative

HARRISBURG, Jan. 1 – During a ceremony at the state Capitol to open the 203rd legislative session, state Rep. Danilo Burgos took the oath of office to begin his first term in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

“It’s time to get down to business. I’m ready to get to work for my neighborhoods in north Philadelphia,” Burgos said. “My children drive my passion for a better, safer, and stronger community. I want to break down any barriers that exist for our children’s future, and foster a city and state of understanding.”

Burgos is the first Dominican elected to serve in the Pennsylvania General Assembly. Prior to being elected, Burgos served as Director of Zoning and Business Development for Philadelphia Councilwoman María Quiñones-Sánchez. In that role, he oversaw the expansion of St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and the plaza Allegheny shopping center, as well as developing and managing several revitalization projects. He is also the former Director of Constituent Services for Councilman At-Large Allan Domb.

“I have big plans for the future -- a focus on improving public education and job training, reducing unemployment, and promoting small business development throughout the district,” Burgos said. “But I will not forget my commitment to criminal justice reform, and working towards the reduction of recidivism. It’s crucial that we provide ex-offenders with a chance to learn from their mistakes and get back to contributing to society.”

Burgos encourages his constituents to contact him via email at RepBurgos@pahouse.net, through his website at www.pahouse.com/Burgos, or on social media at www.facebook.com/RepBurgos and www.twitter.com/RepBurgos.
