State Rep. Tim Briggs congratulates the Lower Merion Area School District finalists of his fifth annual "There Ought to be a Law" essay contest for fifth-grade students. Students participating in this year’s contest were asked to craft a law that would improve their school, community or state. Topics ranged from requiring additional recess time for public school students to prohibiting plastic water bottles. For their hard work, Rep. Briggs presented each student with a Pennsylvania House of Representatives citation for achievement.

In April, Rep. Tim Briggs hosted Community Document Shredding Events in Ardmore and Bridgeport and hundreds of his constituents came out to dispose of documents containing sensitive information. The free event allowed local residents to safely dispose of personal documents and recycle paper

Rep. Tim Briggs welcomed the state champion Lower Merion High School Aces basketball team and coaches to the Capitol. The Aces were recognized on the floor of the House and presented with citations. In March, the Lower Merion High School Aces won the PIAA Boys Basketball AAAA state championship by beating Chester 63-47. Reps. Rep. Tim Briggs is joining a renewed push to update archaic statute-of-limitations laws in child sexual abuse cases. The legislation he supports would abolish the statute of limitations on criminal charges and civil lawsuits in cases of child sexual abuse, as well as suspend for two years now expired statute of limitations in child sex abuse cases, providing a window of opportunity for those victims to file a civil lawsuit.

State Rep. Tim Briggs 4th Annual Summer Food Drive, which benefits several local food pantries, was a great success. He delivered the collected food to the Ada Mutch Community Resource Center on Aug. 31.

State Rep. Tim Briggs delivered 515 signatures to members of the Pennsylvania Legislative Reapportionment Commission opposing the commission’s plan to split Lower Merion Township among four legislative districts. Briggs, along with Reps. Mike Gerber and Pam DeLissio, who also represent parts of Lower Merion Township, provided residents the opportunity to have their voices heard in the state reapportionment process through a petition on their websites. The petition stresses opposition to the split, stating that further division in the Lower Merion community would make it more difficult for residents and representatives alike to focus on the problems and concerns specific to the township. The last day for the public to comment on the commission's proposed plan was May 14, 2012.

Melissa Sweeney, a fourth-grade student at Roberts Elementary School, received an honorable mention award as part of the Youth Art Month contest. She was one of 20 honorable mention awardees. A total of 600 students participated statewide.

Alyssa Dominico, a fourth-grade student at Candlebrook Elementary School, was recently honored as a finalist in the flag design program organized by the Pennsylvania Art Education Association. During March of each year, each state is asked to participate in a flag design program addressing a selected theme that represents the state and promotes Youth Art Month. PA's theme in 2009 is Pennsylvania: A Keystone of Creativity. Alyssa was one of 20 finalists.
