Helping SEPTA help you get to work
Rep. Tim Briggs February 27, 2025 | 3:39 PM
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to share some important updates about the current budget discussions, with a focus on the vital issue of mass transit funding and its impact on our legislative district.
As many of you may be aware, SEPTA, along with dozens of other mass transit agencies across our commonwealth are facing a very real threat, and if a sustainable funding source isn’t provided by the commonwealth, SEPTA will be forced to make very difficult budgetary decisions. The potential elimination or reduction of key services would be devastating for many residents, businesses, and commuters who rely on it daily from across our region and especially within our own community. We cannot let this happen.
In the past legislative session, PA House Democrats led the charge to address the very real shortfall that is facing mass transit funding. In fact, I was proud to sponsor the first bill aimed at tackling this critical issue, and we passed several important measures to help stabilize SEPTA’s budget. Additionally, we have been advocating for the governor to direct funds from other projects to help buy us some time to resolve the shortfall.
However, while we've made significant progress, we must continue to push for a more sustainable funding and a lasting solution. The upcoming state budget is a crucial opportunity to make our voices heard and ensure that mass transit remains a priority. One of our top goals in the coming weeks will be to convince the state Senate to compromise on their opposition to these essential investments in our transportation system.
I will continue to work tirelessly alongside my colleagues in the PA House to ensure that our district’s needs are met, and that SEPTA's Main Line stays up and running for all who depend on it.
I will keep you updated on any developments, and I encourage you to reach out to your representatives to make your voice heard on this important issue.
Thank you for your continued support and for standing with us in this fight for better transportation and a stronger future for our communities.
Sincerely,
State Rep. Tim Briggs
