As a graduate of Edinboro University, Rep. Bizzarro was honored to participate in the inauguration ceremonies March 23 for the school’s 18th president, Dr. H. Fred Walker. More than 500 people attended the installation in Memorial Hall’s Louis C. Cole Auditorium. President Walker, who has been actively leading the university since his appointment July 1, described the Edinboro University spirit as one of innate strength and inventiveness passed down from the pioneers who founded the university as Edinboro Academy in 1857.

Rep. Bizzarro stands with Gov. Tom Wolf and bipartisan legislators to highlight efforts to combat the growing opioid crisis in Pennsylvania. The governor outlined a possible special legislative session, several joint House Democratic and Republican Policy Committee hearings, and other legislative actions to help eradicate heroin and opioid addiction from Pennsylvania communities.

Rep. Bizzarro listens to testimony as part of a state House Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee hearing in Harrisburg in April 2016 on his H.B. 1113, which would create the Community Paramedicine Services Act. The legislation would direct the state Health Department to establish regulations to certify community paramedicine providers, allowing them to more widely treat patients in the commonwealth. Rep. Bizzarro joins state Sen. Sean Wiley to present an award of $412,500 to Asbury Woods Partnership Inc. and its president and CEO, Larry Berrin. The organization was awarded the funding through the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources' Community Conservation Partnerships Program. The grant is intended to help the organization acquire more than 60 acres attached to the park in Millcreek Township.

Rep. Bizzarro presents citations to local student-athletes from Villa Maria Academy's three state championship athletic teams in February 2016. Villa Maria Academy’s golf team captured its second consecutive state championship last year, defeating Greensburg Central Catholic High School 401-413. The school’s cross country team also repeated as state champion in 2015, beating Danville Area High School by 67 points and accumulating a team total of 50 points. In addition, the soccer team captured its first state championship in school history, defeating Villa Joseph Marie High School 1-0.

Rep. Bizzarro takes part in a bowling match as part of "Strike and Spares for Hope and Healing," an event hosted by the Bowling Proprietors Association of Pennsylvania at the state Capitol in Harrisburg. The event raises funds and awareness for Ronald McDonald House Charities in Pennsylvania.

Rep. Bizzarro meets with representatives and animals from Erie Zoo, and other zoos around the commonwealth, as part of Zoo Day at the state Capitol. Zoo Day is an annual event hosted by the Pennsylvania Zoological Council and allows participants to meet unique animals from all over Pennsylvania.

Rep. Bizzarro hosted a news conference in Harrisburg on his House Bill 13, which would establish same-day voter registration in Pennsylvania. The legislation is designed to boost voter turnout and connect young, minority, and low-income voters, in particular, to the democratic process. Under H.B. 13, voters would be able to head to their polling places or an election official's office on Election Day and register to vote.

Rep. Bizzarro, along with Jax Stone's family, visited Tracy Elementary School in Erie to celebrate "Jax Stone Day." Jax was a nine-year-old boy who attended the school and battled a malignant brain stem glioma before passing away July 27, 2014. Rep. Bizzarro's H.R. 972 designates Nov. 11, 2014, Jax's birthday, as "Jax Stone Day" and November 2014 as "Childhood Brain Stem Glioma Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.

Rep. Bizzarro teamed up with state Sen. Sean Wiley to present a $100,000 check to Brian McGrath, Millcreek Township supervisor, and Jim Sperry, director of Parks and Recreation. The funds, awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, will help create a park shelter at Veterans Park at Walnut Creek.

Rep. Bizzarro presented a $93,634 check to McKean Township for the McKean Community Park Trail Expansion Project. The funds will help create a walking and nature trail and were awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority. Rep. Bizzarro was joined by McKean Township supervisors and McKean Recreation Authority members, including Brian Cooper, Jan Dennis, Ken Neuburger, JR Williams, Jan Beal, Dave DeCarolis, and Larry Zemcik.

Rep. Bizzarro hosted a free breakfast for military veterans at American Legion Millcreek Post 773 in Erie. The event gave more than 70 veterans the chance to ask Rep. Bizzarro questions, share concerns, and learn about state and federal benefits provided to those who have valiantly served our country.

I was proud to serve as honorary chairman of the 2014 Light The Night Walk in Erie, which raises funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I also sponsored House Resolution 954, which was unanimously adopted, and names September 2014 "Light The Night Walk Month" in Pennsylvania. As a leukemia survivor, I'm committed to bringing awareness to all cancers and will continue to fight for those Pennsylvanians who are suffering.

I was proud to host my second annual Senior Fair at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center in Erie. Nearly 1,600 seniors turned out to the event, which helped them access crucial services like free health screenings, flu shots, Property Tax/Rent Rebate applications and more. Thanks to the 80 vendors that participated, as well as all attendees who helped make this event a great success!

I was honored to hold a joint news conference with state Sen. Rob Teplitz on the need to establish veterans courts statewide. Currently, only 17 Pennsylvania counties have established these courts. My House Bill 2180 would expand the program statewide, ensuring all eligible veterans would be able to seek rehabilitative treatment instead of being incarcerated for nonviolent crimes.

I attended a news conference the day before Equal Pay Day, where I was proud to stand in support of House Bill 1890. The legislation, which I am cosponsoring, addresses the unfair wage gap in Pennsylvania.

Workers from across the commonwealth joined lawmakers for a rally in the Capitol against legislation that would strip workers’ rights. I was proud to stand up for workers and against House Bill 1507 and Senate Bill 1034. More images from the rally can be seen by clicking here.

I recently brought the House Democratic Policy Committee to Erie for a tour of the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Joining me here are state Rep. William Kortz, D-Allegheny, and state Rep. Mark Longietti, D-Mercer.

Joining me to honor local military veterans during Erie’s Veterans Day Parade are Erie City Councilman David Brennan, state Rep. Flo Fabrizio and Pat Harkins, and state Sen. Sean Wiley.

A great resource for veterans is the Veterans Success Center at my alma mater, Edinboro University. Joining me for a recent visit to the center were Jay Breneman, center coordinator and Erie County councilman-elect; Kathy Dahlkemper, county executive-elect; state Rep. Fellow members of the House Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee joined me for a great meeting and discussions with the 28th Infantry Division of the Pennsylvania National Guard at its headquarters in Harrisburg. I came away very impressed with the "Iron Division's operating principles. The soldiers are fit, resilient, and well trained, and their leaders exude character and competence. At a Capitol news conference, I joined House Democrats in highlighting education policies that harm Pennsylvania’s students and schools, and will ultimately drive up future costs for the state. House Democrats have been fighting to restore cuts to public education.

I was joined by other leukemia survivors during the Sept. 19 “Light the Night” walk at Jerry Uht Park in Erie. I can’t thank all the wonderful participants enough for the support they showed for cancer research and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. It was everything Erie recently as Lawrence Park Township Commissioner Pete Ogden visited to discuss issues. Joining me are state Representatives Pat Harkins and Flo Fabrizio and state Sen. Sean Wiley.

State Rep. Pat Harkins joins me in welcoming members of the Pennsylvania Psychological Association to the Capitol to discuss mental health issues. Joining us are Dr. Donald McAleer, Rebecca Gleeson and Susan Troutner of Northshore Neurosciences in Erie.

Rep. Bizzarro congratulates James D. Mando, president and CEO of the Sarah A. Reed Children’s Center, as they tour a major expansion project at the center. The center serves hundreds of children and adolescents every day at its facilities, area school districts and through community-based services.

Rep. Bizzarro thanks Gannon University students who performed a singing Valentine for the lawmaker, who obtained his master's degree in public administration from the school.

Rep. Bizzarro and his district office staff celebrate Pennsylvania's 332nd birthday with an improvised "birthday" card. On March 10, 1681, England’s King Charles II issued a charter to grant the land that is now Pennsylvania to founder William Penn. It is sometimes referred to as the state’s “birth certificate.”

I’ve been delighted with how Jordyn Colao of Millcreek, the reigning Miss Pennsylvania, has represented Erie County across the state and nation. I was pleased to present her with an official citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, recognizing her hard work. We’re flanked by her mother and father, Joe and Laurie Colao.
