Bizzarro laments local GE Transportation layoffs

ERIE, Nov. 6 – State Rep. Ryan A. Bizzarro, D-Erie, expressed his grave concern over today’s announcement that GE Transportation in Erie will lay off about 1,500 of its 4,500 local workers.

“Today’s announcement represents a great loss for our community,” Bizzarro said. “These steady blue-collar jobs help families put food on the table and boost economic growth in our community. We all know manufacturing and related industries have taken a hit in recent years, but we need to do all that we can to preserve these vital jobs in our region.”

This morning, GE Transportation announced the layoffs will occur within the next 60 days at its Erie facility. The company pointed to the expectation of lower production volumes next year as the reason behind the decision.

Bizzarro said he and other local elected officials stand ready to assist affected workers and families.
