Bizzarro applauds priorities laid out in Gov. Shapiro’s budget address

First-time homebuyer grant program introduced by Bizzarro included in proposal

HARRISBURG, Feb. 4 – In response to Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro’s 2025-2026 budget address, House Majority Policy Chairman Ryan Bizzarro (D-Erie) released the following statement:

“Governor Shapiro laid out what I believe is a common-sense spending plan that cuts taxes and puts Pennsylvanians first. House Democrats have long championed many of the ideas introduced in the address, and we’re ready to put in the work to see them come to fruition.

It’s encouraging that Governor Shapiro included my proposed First-Time Homebuyer Grant program in his proposal, which will help cover the closing costs for Pennsylvanians buying their new home. It’s one of the many initiatives aimed at cutting costs for Pennsylvanians and addressing housing needs.

We also need to make Pennsylvania a leader in economic development by supporting initiatives presented in the budget proposal that revitalize downtown communities, find new ways to grow and attract local businesses and finally legalize adult-use recreational cannabis. All these ideas would elevate our commonwealth to the same level as our neighbors and make us more competitive.

Meanwhile, our students deserve the best schools. Our residents deserve the best jobs and affordable healthcare options. Everyone should feel safe in their communities, and no one should have to worry about putting food on their table or keeping a roof over their heads. This budget will help ensure Pennsylvania has better jobs, better schools and better communities.

Remember, this is just the beginning of the budget process. It’s now on us in the General Assembly to come together and deliver an equitable budget that puts Pennsylvania at the forefront. It’s time to do the work the people sent us here to do.”
