ERIE, Oct. 23 – Millcreek Township School District will be able to replace all the windows in three of its school buildings thanks to a $500,000 state grant, state Rep. Ryan Bizzarro said.
“When local projects need a push from Harrisburg, my team and I will do what’s needed to help statewide competitive grants go from the application process to a reality in our region,” Bizzarro said. “Updating and improving our school buildings to keep them safe and efficient can be costly. Today’s announcement will help remove some of the burden from local taxpayers to make a sizable improvement project possible.”
Millcreek Township School District will use the funds to replace all the windows at Belle Valley Elementary, Chestnut Hill Elementary and McDowell Intermediate. The project will allow the temperature in the schools to be better regulated, and the windows include safety features to keep the building secure.
The funds were issued through the Pennsylvania School Facility Improvement Grant program. The program provides funding for public school districts and technical schools that are deemed eligible for improvement projects. Funds may be used to replace or upgrade roofs, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, windows and more. Grants are administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development.
Today’s announcement continues Bizzarro’s efforts to allocate state money to properly fund workforce development, schools, nonprofits, first responders and local businesses in his district and Erie County. So far this year, Bizzarro has helped secure more than $69.5 million in funding for Erie County projects.
