Bizzarro’s bill for more equal representation advances out of committee
Rep. Ryan Bizzarro April 24, 2023 | 1:02 PM
HARRISBURG, April 24 – State Rep. Ryan Bizzarro’s bill to provide people with disabilities more equal representation on the criteria needed to obtain a driver’s license, advanced out of the House Transportation Committee by a 21-0 vote.
“People with disabilities deserve the opportunity to have their needs recognized and their voices heard,” Bizzarro said. “My bill would ensure people with disabilities have a seat at the table when it comes to obtaining a driver’s license. We are one step closer to guaranteeing more equal representation for the needs and concerns of all Pennsylvania residents.”
The bill would ensure a certified driver rehabilitation specialist – a professional who works regularly with individuals with disabilities who drive – would be seated on the Medical Advisory Board at the state Transportation Department. The Medical Advisory Board at PennDOT is responsible for formulating the physical and mental criteria drivers must meet to obtain a license.
Bizzarro introduced H.B. 134 in January, and the bill now heads to the full House for consideration.
