Davis: Masking important step in protecting our children and keeping schools open
McKEESPORT, Aug. 31 – State Rep. Austin Davis, D-Allegheny, issued the following statement on the Wolf administration’s requirement for children to wear masks in Pennsylvania schools and daycare centers starting on Sept. 7:
“Keeping our children in school and keeping them safe is a top priority. With COVID-19 case counts increasing, the situation has reached a point where we need to take this action to protect our children, teachers and staff.
“Vaccination rates in the Mon Valley are among the lowest in Allegheny County and since many school-aged children aren’t yet eligible for the shot, masking will play an important role in protecting them from the virus.
“If we want to keep our schools open, maintain classroom learning and allow sports and other activities to continue, we need to mask up.”
